About

Robert was born and grew up in Bradford. After initially considering architecture as a career he went to Loughborough University and trained as a Craft and Design teacher where he gained a Bachelor of Education Hons. degree in Creative Design. Following university he went into Secondary education where he taught Jewellery and Silversmithing as part of the Design Curriculum.

Robert moved to York in 1980 and the following year he left teaching and started making jewellery full time from his home workshop.

In 1994 he opened The Robert Feather Jewellery Gallery & Workshop in York, where Robert would design, make and sell his work alongside established contemporary jewellers and craftspeople. With a desire for excellence in craftsmanship and design the gallery gained an excellent reputation for specialising in quality contemporary jewellery and was granted selected membership of The National Association of Contemporary Craft Galleries.

In his jewellery and ring designs he often uses different coloured gold details as part of the design. His work is understated with the emphasis being on an effective composition of colour, shape, texture and light using the qualities of the metals and stones in their various forms.

Robert has sold and exhibited his work at International Jewellery Trade Fairs, Goldsmiths Fair, Designer Jewellers Group exhibitions and many shops and galleries throughout the country. His work has also featured in various books and magazines.

Robert now sells his work exclusively from his studio/workshop at his home in Bubwith near York and through his annual Open House Exhibitions. (If you wish to receive an invitation to an Open House Exhibition please CONTACT us.)
